If you are looking for a holiday, this may just help to provide some useful (useless) information to help you decide, or at least you will have something to impress your mates with.

Have you ever heard the word “Antigua”, well if you are Spanish you might have, but do you know what it means? Antigua is a Spanish word and means Ancient, it received its name thanks to Columbus, who named it after a church in Santa Maria!

Do you know what the National Flower of Barbados is? This flower was thought to only grow on Barbados, and it is called the “Pride of Barbados” it is a form of Hibiscus flower.

St Lucia wasn’t always the luxury holiday location it is today, it was an island of war. The British and the French went to war over this island at least 14 times, earning it its name “Helen of the West Indies”.

Jamaica isn’t that large, but how many people do you think inhabit this land. Odds are that you are completely wrong, after all it is hard to guess anyway, but it more than 500,000 lets put it that way? Well you weren’t really that close, it’s more like 3 million!

Cuba isn’t exactly how the western countries have depicted it. Cuba is the country that can quite easily hold up its hands and say that it is the most culturally diverse in the Caribbean, which is interesting especially when you think about the strong regime in control!

Grenada has a lot of natural beauty, much like the island of St Lucia, and it has tried to use this to it’s advantage to exploit tourism. However Grenada has another name like Zanzibar, it is known as the Spice isle. This island produces much of the spice in the whole of the Caribbean, including items like Nutmeg from mace.

Next up and last of all is Bermuda, now i don’t want to bore you with the usual stuff that people talk about when you mention Bermuda. Bermuda may be referred to as the singular, but it is in fact made up of more than 130 smaller islands, the mainland is usually called Bermuda.

So what do you think, inspired to try Caribbean holidays, with new knowledge you could try St Lucia holidays or Cuba holidays!
