Things to See in Capitol Reef National Park
Southern Utah is filled with some of the most amazing land on the planet. One of the most amazing and yet less visited of the Southern Utah National Parks is Capitol Reef Park.
Capitol Reef is basically a large park and campground which host the following attractions.
1. Great Waterpocket Fold
The Waterpocket Fold is a huge 100 mile wash that cuts across Southern Utah. This large structure is one of the main attractions of the park and is a perfect place to study geology at.
This large land mark was created over 65 million years ago by a large event called the Laramide Orogeny, which created mountains and pushed large rocks aside.
2. Cave Painting
Before the Americans came along this was a land filled with Indians. As such there are still some amazing Indian painting which you will be able to see and to get a decent picture of.
The Fremont Indians who lived here created amazing painting and rock carvings. If you love Native Americans you are going to love this park.
3. Old Houses
Mormons settled the land when escaping from American who did not hold their same religious beliefs. The small village remained cut off from the rest of the worldunitl the early to mid 1900s. Today there are still buildings, school houses, and workshops that are still around.
4. Deer
The park is filled with deer, I was not there 5 minutes before seeing deer running around and I saw them throughout my visit. The deer are so friendly that they will even come right up to you. When I visited the park I made sure to get a lot of photos of the deer.
There are plenty of other wild animals to see as well, deer just seem to make up the largest population. If you are ever in Southern Utah or Northern Arizona then you may want to take a visit to the park.
